As the demand for electricity surges, Luzon and Visayas grids grapple with critical challenges in maintaining power supply stability.

Luzon grid continues to wrestle with a red alert status, enduring intermittent power disruptions during peak hours.

Meanwhile, Visayas grid escalated to a red alert, exacerbating concerns over strained resources.

Here's an overview of the current grid statuses and their implications on power availability.

Luzon Grid Status (19 April 2024):

The Luzon grid oscillated between red and yellow alerts throughout the day, signaling a precarious balance between supply and demand.

During peak periods from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM, consumers face heightened risks of outages.

Conversely, relief was experienced during yellow alert periods from 12:00 NN to 3:00 PM, 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, and 10:00 PM to 11:00 PM.

The available capacity stood at 13,594MW, slightly exceeded the peak demand of 13,127MW.

However, the grid grappled with the unavailability of 2,284.3MW due to forced outages and derated capacities across nineteen power plants.

Visayas Grid Status (19 April 2024):

In Visayas, the situation escalated to a red alert, necessitating stringent measures to avert widespread blackouts.

The red alert spanned from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM, indicated a critical deficit in power supply relative to demand.

This escalation was attributed to heightened forecasted demand in Visayas and Mindanao, resulting in reduced power sharing via the Mindanao-Visayas Interconnection.

Despite an available capacity of 2,484MW, the peak demand of 2,504MW exacerbated the strain on the grid.

Furthermore, the unavailability of 757.7MW, stemming from forced outages and derated capacities across eighteen power plants, compounds the grid's vulnerability.
