DICT Issues Statement On Ransomware Attack On PhilHealth

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) has issued a statement that the agency has taken “swift and decisive action to address a ransomware attack that targeted the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) on September 22, 2023.”
In its statement, the DICT immediately mobilized its Cybersecurity Bureau's National Computer Emergency Response Team (NCERT) and initiated critical security measures upon discovering the breach.
These measures included the disconnection of workstations from the network, close coordination with PhilHealth to assess the extent of the attack, and the collection of relevant logs for a thorough analysis.
As of September 25, 2023, PhilHealth's critical web services can only be accessed through their IP addresses, with comprehensive security scanning currently underway.
Efforts are still in progress to restore the functionality of PhilHealth's DNS server.
