Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Police General Benjamin Acorda has officially confirmed the submission of a courtesy resignation by Quezon City Police District Director (QCPD) Police Brigadier General Nicolas Torre III.

Torre was heavily criticized for hosting a press conference which seemingly gave a platform to former PO1 Wilfredo Gonzales who was seen in a viral video brandishing a gun against a cyclist.

Acorda commended General Torre for his display of delicadeza (sense of propriety) in stepping down from his position to facilitate an unbiased investigation. He stated, "Although I salute this gesture, we've seen the positive contributions he's made to Quezon City. The press conference held is currently under investigation. I greatly appreciate General Torre's gesture and respect his decision."

Meanwhile, in a statement by the Supreme Court, it was disclosed that Mr. Wilfredo Gonzales had been employed under Associate Justice Ricardo R. Rosario. However, following the incident, Gonzales's employment was terminated on August 27, 2023.

Justice Rosario emphasized his stance against violence and abusive behavior, asserting that he does not condone such actions.
