In a ceremony held at the Philippine National Police (PNP) Headquarters in Camp BGen. Rafael Crame, Quezon City on April 24, 2023, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. led the change of command ceremony and retirement honors for Police General Rodolfo S. Azurin Jr., the first PNP Chief of the Marcos Administration.
Police Major General Benjamin C. Acorda Jr., PNP Director for Intelligence, assumed the command as the 29th PNP Chief. General Acorda Jr. is regarded as a ‘Humble Servant’ in the PNP whose family has produced a long line of public officials in Ilocos Norte. He is a member of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) ‘Sambisig’ Class of 1991.
General Azurin Jr. retired from the police service at the age of 56, the mandatory retirement age for police officers. He served in various capacities within the PNP for 38 years and earned multiple recognitions and distinctions throughout his productive years of service in the police force.
During his tenure as the PNP Chief, General Azurin Jr. oversaw the implementation of various programs and initiatives aimed at promoting peace and order in the country. He also played a key role in strengthening the PNP's capabilities to combat criminality and terrorism. Following General Azurin Jr.'s retirement.
