The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and San Juan City Government together with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) conducted an inspection of Agora Public Market to ensure that vendors were complying with the suggested retail prices (SRP) of basic necessities and prime commodities.

The inspection was led byDTI Assistant Secretary for Consumer Protection Group Ann Claire Cabochan,San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora, MMDA Acting Chairman Atty. Don Artes, and MMDA General Manager Undersecretary Procopio Lipana,

The inspection also covered checking the weighing scales of vendors to ensure that customers were getting the correct amount of goods for their money. The move was initiated to protect consumers from unscrupulous sellers who take advantage of market conditions and inflate prices.

Mayor Zamora said that the inspection was done to guarantee that constituents are not being sold overpriced commodities, adding that the San Juan City Government has a Local Price Coordinating Council (LPCC) responsible for monitoring the supply and prices of basic food items.

Based on the most recent price monitoring, the SRP for imported red onions is set at ₱125 per kilogram, covering medium and large-sized onions. As a result of the inspection, two notices of violation were issued against Agora Public Market retailers for failing to comply with the SRP.
Agora Public Market is the only public market operating in San Juan City.

The inspection was conducted to ensure that vendors follow fair business practices, and that consumers are protected from overpricing and other forms of illegal trade.
