Tropical Depression "Amang" has accelerated as it moves westward towards the coast of Catanduanes, according to the latest advisory issued at 11:00 am on April 11, 2023. The weather disturbance is expected to bring heavy rainfall and severe winds, posing potential hazards to land areas and coastal waters.

The forecast indicates that intense rains of 100-200 mm are expected in Northern Samar and the northern portions of Samar and Eastern Samar, while heavy rains of 50-100 mm are expected in the rest of Samar provinces.

These heavy rainfall amounts may cause flooding and rain-induced landslides, especially in areas that are highly susceptible to these hazards as identified in hazard maps and in localities that have experienced considerable amounts of rainfall in the past several days.

Severe winds associated with Tropical Depression "Amang" may pose minimal to minor threats to life and property in areas under Wind Signal No. 1, which may be hoisted in other localities in Eastern Visayas and Bicol Region in succeeding bulletins.

Coastal waters in the eastern seaboards of Catanduanes and Eastern Samar, as well as the northern and eastern seaboards of Northern Samar, are under a marine gale warning due to the influence of the tropical depression. Mariners of small seacrafts are advised to take precautionary measures and avoid navigating in moderate to rough seas in the mentioned areas.

The track and intensity outlook for Tropical Depression "Amang" indicates that it is forecast to track generally westward or west northwestward towards the Bicol Region, with the possibility of a landfall scenario over the Bicol Peninsula area not ruled out, especially in the next 36 hours.

While the current forecast shows that the tropical depression will remain offshore over the waters east of Luzon for the next 3 days, the forecast confidence cone suggests the potential for a landfall scenario. Throughout the forecast period, "Amang" is expected to remain as a tropical depression, with the possibility of weakening into a low pressure area by late Thursday or early Friday.

The affected areas include Catanduanes, Sorsogon, Albay, Camarines Sur, Camarines Norte, Quezon (specifically Pitogo, San Andres, Buenavista, San Francisco, Calauag, Infanta, Lopez, Catanauan, Mulanay, Guinayangan, Unisan, General Luna, Plaridel, Quezon, Alabat, Sampaloc, Padre Burgos, Macalelon, Mauban, General Nakar, Perez, Agdangan, Gumaca, Atimonan, Real, San Narciso, Tagkawayan, Pagbilao, and City of Tayabas) including Pollilo Islands, Marinduque, and Masbate including Ticao Island and Burias Island in Luzon, as well as Eastern Samar, Northern Samar, Samar, and Biliran in Visayas.

People in the affected areas should stay vigilant and heed the advice and warnings from local authorities, as well as monitor updates from the weather bureau. They should be prepared for possible flooding, landslides, and strong winds, and take necessary precautions to protect life and property. Small seacrafts should avoid venturing out to sea in areas under gale warning, and mariners should follow safety measures. It is important to stay informed and be prepared for any potential impacts of Tropical Depression "Amang".
