Amid Government Push On Pension Reform, PBBM Vows To Protect Military Personnel Welfare

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has reaffirmed the significance of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) in safeguarding the nation's security and democracy. During an oath-taking ceremony for 40 newly promoted generals and flag officers of the AFP, President Marcos pledged to strengthen the organization and prioritize the welfare of its personnel.
"As your President and your Commander-in-Chief, I stand resolutely behind and with the Armed Forces of the Philippines. I will ensure that the strength of the organization and the well-being of all its personnel are attended to," President Marcos declared.
The event took place at Malacañang on Monday afternoon, where the president administered the oath to the recently promoted AFP officials. The group comprises 10 Major Generals/Rear Admirals and 14 Brigadier Generals/Commodores of the Philippine Army, one Lieutenant General, three Major Generals/Rear Admirals, and four Brigadier Generals/Commodores of the Philippine Navy, one Lieutenant General, two Major Generals/Rear Admirals, and three Brigadier Generals/Commodores of the Philippine Air Force, and two Brigadier Generals/Commodores of the Technical and Administrative Service.
In his address, President Marcos acknowledged that the AFP is entering a new era, where it not only focuses internally but also looks outward. He emphasized that despite the progress made by the country, the ever-changing dynamics of geopolitics and the global security environment present ongoing challenges.
Given these circumstances, the president stressed the need for the AFP to remain effective, formidable, and responsive in defending and preserving the nation's integrity and interests.
"Henceforth, your strategic leadership will be the fulcrum and the compass, so that the AFP will move in the right direction, guided by the Constitution and the democratic principles that we have all sworn to uphold," stated the AFP's commander-in-chief.
President Marcos congratulated the newly sworn-in military officers, expressing high expectations for their performance. He highlighted their responsibility to efficiently manage the organization and its assets, ensuring its effectiveness and resilience. Furthermore, he called upon them to lead and inspire the next generation of guardians and future leaders, instilling in them the values of discipline, valor, and patriotic public service.
The president also emphasized the importance of high-level security intelligence and analysis to inform strategic decision-making and planning, enabling the Commander-in-Chief to stay fully apprised of security matters.
Government officials, including Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, Department of National Defense (DND) Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr., Special Assistant to the President Secretary Antonio Lagdameo, and Presidential Communications Office Secretary Cheloy Velicaria-Garafil, were present at the oath-taking ceremony. Presidential Adviser on Military and Police Affairs Sec. Roman Felix and AFP Chief of Staff General Andres Centino also attended the event.
