President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has declared the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections in the Philippines as non-working days, urging Filipinos to exercise their voting rights on October 30.
In an official proclamation, Proclamation No. 359, signed by Executive Secretary Lucas P. Bersamin on October 9, President Marcos emphasized the importance of allowing citizens to cast their votes.
"It is imperative that the people be given the full opportunity to participate in the said elections and exercise their right of suffrage," the President stated.
The Supreme Court (SC) has given its approval for the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to proceed with the barangay and SK polls, as originally scheduled under Republic Act No. 11935.
