President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. expressed gratitude to overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Vietnam, emphasizing their pivotal role in reinforcing the robust relations between the Philippines and Vietnam.

During a meeting with the Filipino community in Vietnam, he acknowledged their contribution, stating, "Isang patunay ng malapit na ugnayan ng ating dalawang bansa ay ang tinatawag nating people-to-people connections." (A proof of the close relationship between our two countries is what we call people-to-people connections.)

President Marcos lauded the Filipino community in Vietnam, recognizing their hard work and perseverance, which he believes has positively influenced the reputation of the Philippines. He expressed his heartfelt appreciation, saying, "Kaya’t ako’y lubos na nagpapasalamat sa inyong lahat dahil napapadali ang aking trabaho dahil sa magandang reputasyon na itinaguyod niyo sa pamamagitan ng inyong sipag at tiyaga dito sa Vietnam." (So I am truly grateful to all of you because my work is made easier due to the good reputation you have built through your hard work and dedication here in Vietnam.)

Highlighting the global admiration for OFWs, President Marcos anticipated that Vietnamese leaders would also commend their outstanding performance. He pledged to continue efforts, alongside his Cabinet members, to combat poverty in the Philippines, particularly in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, despite the growing strength of the economy.

Vietnam hosts approximately 7,000 OFWs, contributing significantly to the Philippine economy with remittances totaling $13,683,000. The formal diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Vietnam, established on July 12, 1976, have flourished over 47 years, reaching a strategic partnership in 2015.

President Marcos's state visit to Vietnam, his first this year, aims to fortify bilateral ties, enhance maritime cooperation, and boost trade and investment relations between the two countries.
