President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. revealed that Malaysian investors have expressed keen interest in investing in the Maharlika Investment Fund (MIF). The sovereign fund, aimed at boosting the Philippine economy, has garnered attention from foreign businessmen, including those from Malaysia.
President Marcos emphasized that various Malaysian investors have shown interest in the MIF, citing the appeal of business opportunities and potential returns. He highlighted the importance of providing specific information about the fund to potential investors from the private sector before any commitments are made.
"There is significant interest from the Malaysian business community because it is a business venture. Once we can provide them with the necessary details, we can discuss the potential investments both from the fund and our private sector partners," President Marcos stated.
Addressing concerns related to Malaysia's experience with the 1 Malaysian Development Berhad (1MDB), President Marcos assured that the MIF would not face similar issues. He praised the caution of Malaysian investors, stating that they would not invest if they perceived any potential risks.
"The Malaysian investors are known for being the most meticulous in their investments. They will not invest if they see any resemblances to the problems they faced in the past," President Marcos asserted.
To foster confidence among potential investors, President Marcos reiterated his commitment to maintaining the MIF as a professionally run sovereign fund devoid of undue political interference. He stressed that the daily investment decisions would be left to experienced financial managers, ensuring the fund operates with utmost transparency and effectiveness.
