Benguet Declares State of Calamity After Typhoon 'Egay' Wreaks Havoc

The Province of Benguet has taken a critical step in response to the aftermath of Typhoon 'Egay' by issuing Resolution No. 2023-688, declaring a State of Calamity. The decision was made based on the recommendation of the PDRRMC through Resolution No. 2023-03, highlighting the severity of the situation.
Typhoon 'Egay' has left a trail of devastation across the province, with 103 out of 140 barangays reporting critical incidents, including damaged houses, casualties, and evacuees.
Various sectors have suffered substantial losses. The Benguet Electric Cooperative reported damages exceeding Eight Million Pesos to its facilities, causing ongoing efforts to restore electricity in different barangays.
The National Irrigation Authority reported damages worth Thirty-Five Million Pesos to irrigation facilities within Benguet, impacting agricultural activities and water supply.
The Provincial Engineering Office revealed that 24 out of the 57 provincial roads were significantly damaged due to landslides, posing transportation challenges for residents and emergency responders.
The agricultural sector also bore the brunt of the typhoon, with province-wide damage to crops, livestock, and agricultural facilities reported in all municipalities.
With the declaration of a State of Calamity, the Provincial Government aims to mobilize resources and expedite aid and assistance to those affected, working towards the recovery and rehabilitation of the province and its communities.
