The Benilde Lady Blazers of De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde made history once again as they completed a second straight season sweep to capture back-to-back crowns in the NCAA Season 98 women's volleyball tournament. The crown is staying put in Taft as the Lady Blazers showcased their dominance throughout the season.
In the championship match held on Friday, the Lady Blazers faced off against Lyceum of the Philippines University. With their eyes set on the title, the Lady Blazers wasted no time in showing their prowess on the court. They secured a commanding 25-19 win in the first set, followed by a dominant 25-11 victory in the second set, displaying their all-around skills and teamwork.
The Lady Blazers faced some resistance from the Lady Pirates in the third set as Joan Doguna rallied her team to close the gap. However, the Lady Blazers showed composure and resilience as they maintained their lead. Led by Cloanne Mondoñedo's powerful kills and the steady play of Gayle Pascual, the Lady Blazers secured a 25-20 win in the third set to claim the championship title.
This victory marks the second consecutive season sweep for the Lady Blazers, as they also achieved the same feat in Season 97, going undefeated in 11 games. The team's winning streak now stands at an impressive 29 games, dating back to Season 95, showcasing their consistent excellence on the court.
The Lady Blazers' success would not have been possible without the leadership of their coach, Jerry Yee, who was also awarded Coach of the Year for his outstanding guidance and mentorship. Additionally, Jade Gentapa was named the Finals MVP for her exceptional performances throughout the season and her pivotal role in the championship match.
