BFP Calapan Still Looking Into Gas Leak As Cause Of Explosion In Xentro Mall

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) is currently investigating the explosion that occurred at a restaurant in Xentro Mall, Calapan, Oriental Mindoro, yesterday morning at approximately 10:20. The incident has left 18 individuals injured, some with severe burns, who are currently receiving treatment at the Oriental Mindoro Provincial Hospital and Maria Estrella General Hospital.

The Calapan Fire Station investigation unit is actively working on determining the cause of the explosion. While the investigation is ongoing, the BFP is urging the public to regularly inspect their LPG tanks for worn-out hoses, defective regulators, and faulty fixtures.

By taking these precautions, the potential risks of gas leaks that can lead to fires or explosions can be significantly reduced. Additionally, it is crucial to purchase LPG tanks exclusively from legitimate suppliers to ensure their quality and safety. In case of emergencies, the public is advised to call 911 for immediate assistance.

The incident, which occurred on June 29, 2023, at approximately 10:20 am, resulted in injuries to four staff members, one delivery boy, and ten unidentified individuals. Additionally, twelve vehicles sustained varying degrees of damage. In response to the situation, the Incident Command Post (ICP) was immediately activated in coordination with the BFP, RECU MIMAROPA, TSC under RMFB 4B, and Calapan CDRRMO.
