An IED courier for the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) was killed in a joint military and police operation in Barangay Madia, Datu Saudi Ampatuan, Maguindanao del Sur on Thursday, April 27, 2023.

The suspect, identified as Malang or Bungo, was served with a warrant of arrest when he engaged the authorities in a firefight. Lieutenant Colonel Michael Glenn Manansala, Battalion Commander of the 6th Infantry (Redskin) Battalion, said that the suspect was armed with a Cal. 45 pistol, which was recovered by the authorities.

The suspect was also involved in an encounter against the Philippine National Police-Special Action Force in 2015.

The family of the suspect immediately claimed his remains for burial in accordance with their Islamic beliefs.

Brigadier General Oriel Pangcog, 601st Infantry (Unifier) Brigade, commended the joint forces of the 6th Infantry Battalion and Maguindanao del Sur PNP for the successful operation against law offenders.

“This is a significant blow to the terrorist group, and a victory for the authorities in maintaining peace and order in the area. It is also justice for the families of the SAF 44 as one of the suspects has been brought to justice," said Brig. Gen. Pangcog.

Major General Alex Rillera, Commander of the 6th Infantry (Kampilan) Division and Joint Task Force Central, reminded the public that the authorities will continue to work together to apprehend those who commit crimes and violence.

He also appealed to criminals to surrender peacefully before it is too late.
