Bureau of Immigration Commissioner Norman Tansingco has announced the deactivation of the Port Operations Division (POD) of the agency, effective Thursday.
The move comes after the Secretary of Justice, Jesus Crispin Remulla, approved Tansingco's recommendation to streamline the operational structure of the airport services offered by the BI.
Tansingco stated that the previous organizational structure of the POD had become too complex, with overlapping and redundant functions leading to dilution of accountability among the airport terminal heads. The reorganization is aimed at empowering the terminal heads and making them directly responsible for the operation and management of their respective terminals.
Tansingco emphasized that the new management system will be leaner, allowing for easier identification of problems and proper recognition of good performance. The proposal for the reorganization was submitted to the Department of Justice on February 2 and has received the support of the Secretary of Justice.
The deactivation of the POD is expected to bring about positive changes in the BI's airport services, with the terminal heads taking on a more direct role in their operations. Tansingco expressed his gratitude towards the Secretary of Justice for his support and said that the move is in line with the BI's aim to provide more efficient services to the public.
