Bohol has officially kicked off its 2024 tourism season by welcoming the first cruise ship to dock in the province. The CMV Vasco De Gama, operated by Nicko Cruises Germany, arrived at the Tagbilaran City Port at 6:00 in the morning on January 10, marking the beginning of what is expected to be a vibrant year for Bohol's tourism industry.
Ma. Lourdes Sultan, the managing director of Travel Village, the local partner of Mystic Cruises, disclosed that the luxury cruise liner carried an impressive number of passengers and crew. With approximately 1,216 to 1,512 passengers and 588 crew members on board, Vasco de Gama's 22-day Asia Cruise made four stops in the Philippines, including Manila, Coron, Puerto Princesa in Palawan, and now Bohol, before setting sail for Indonesia and Australia.
The award-winning cruise line, crowned 'Ship of the Year' in 2023, offers a luxurious experience with its array of amenities. Onboard, passengers can indulge in five restaurants, seven bars and cafés, a heated swimming pool, and first-class entertainment featuring shows, live music, and lectures on local history.
The successful arrival of CMV Vasco De Gama in Bohol was made possible through the collaborative efforts of the Bohol Provincial Tourism Office, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, and the Department of Tourism. The provincial government, led by Governor Aris Aumentado, provided crucial support to ensure the smooth entry of the cruise ship, aligning with their commitment to promoting sustainable tourism and fostering economic growth in the province.
Governor Aumentado, in an earlier statement, highlighted the tourism recovery as a major achievement, underscoring the province's dedication to establishing Bohol as a premier travel destination.
The arrival of CMV Vasco De Gama signals not only the revival of tourism but also the continued commitment to providing visitors with unparalleled experiences against the picturesque backdrop of Bohol's natural wonders.
