Several individuals purportedly operating as scammers have left a trail of victims, including popular celebrities Mikee Quintos and Paul Salas, as well as seven others, in their wake, with a staggering P8 million allegedly swindled from their victims.
Quintos, Salas, and their co-victims have now taken legal action against four individuals, accusing them of violating Presidential Decree No. 1699, which deals with Syndicated Estafa in connection with Articles 315 and 316 of the Revised Penal Code.
The accused parties in this case are John David del Castillo Ortiz, Margarita Ortiz-tan, Ralph Francisco Torres, Delfin Hernandez Villaruel Jr., and Julian Vincent Ortanez Parado, who are associated with Cronus Holding Corp.
Quintos shared that she initially became involved in the investment scheme a year ago and claimed to have received interest on her investment. However, in May 2023, she, along with the other victims, was enticed to reinvest in the group's cryptocurrency venture, with promises of doubling their money within just two weeks.
"Two weeks passed, then three weeks, and even a month, but they never returned to us," Salas lamented. Quintos also expressed her frustration, stating, "My future brother-in-law was the one who first connected with them. I think that's their modus operandi: they initially build trust, and once they receive a substantial amount, which was approximately P8 million from us, they vanish."
Their legal representative, Atty. Lance Tan, revealed that the accused individuals are in their early twenties. He emphasized the gravity of the charges, stating, "This is syndicated estafa, which carries a potential life imprisonment sentence, and there is no bail. It's regrettable because they are young. It's a pity for them as well, as they are still quite young."
