Tropical Storm CHEDENG continues to gain strength as it moves west northwestward over the Philippine Sea. At 4:00 PM, the center of the storm was estimated to be approximately 1,150 kilometers east of Southeastern Luzon.
CHEDENG currently has maximum sustained winds of 85 km/h near the center, with gusts of up to 105 km/h. The central pressure is recorded at 994 hPa. Strong to gale-force winds extend outward up to 350 kilometers from the center.
As of now, no Tropical Cyclone Wind Signals (TCWS) are in effect.
The heavy rainfall outlook suggests that CHEDENG is unlikely to directly bring heavy rainfall to any part of the country in the next 3 to 5 days. However, the forecast scenario may enhance the Southwest Monsoon, potentially leading to changes in the timing and intensity of monsoon rains, particularly in the western region. The public is advised to stay updated on the possible enhancement of the Southwest Monsoon by monitoring weather advisories.
The possibility of severe winds resulting from CHEDENG is currently low. The Southwest Monsoon may experience intermittent wind gusts, but this is subject to change depending on CHEDENG's movement and intensity, as well as its interaction with other weather systems.
Coastal waters are not expected to experience rough conditions within the next 24 hours due to Tropical Storm CHEDENG.
The forecast track indicates that CHEDENG will continue to move northwestward or west northwestward today until Saturday morning before turning more northward or north northeastward over the weekend. It is expected to remain far from the Philippine landmass. Environmental conditions favor CHEDENG's intensification, and it may be upgraded to a severe tropical storm tonight or tomorrow, possibly becoming a typhoon by late Thursday or Friday.
Rapid intensification is also a possibility, with peak intensity potentially reached by Friday or Saturday.
The public and disaster risk reduction and management offices are urged to take necessary precautions to protect life and property. Residents in highly susceptible areas should follow evacuation and other instructions from local officials. For specific weather information and warnings in your area, please monitor updates from your local PAGASA Regional Services Division.
