The Chun Yu Bay Area Dragons are set to return to the PBA Commissioner's Cup while simultaneously participating in Season 2 of the East Asia Super League (EASL). The Dragons, known for their groundbreaking representation of Greater China talent, have undergone significant changes this season, starting with a relocation to Hong Kong, with occasional stays in Manila.
The team's roster features some familiar faces, as a number of key players from last season have committed to another tour of duty with the Dragons. Fans can expect to witness the talents of Zhu Songwei, Liu Chuanxing, Glen Yang, and seasoned veteran Duncan Reid on the court once again.
While the Dragons have yet to announce the identity of their import player, anticipation is high, as the addition of a world-class player is expected to further bolster the team's performance. The coaching staff remains unchanged, with head coach Brian Goorjian leading the charge, alongside deputies William Tomlinson and Jimmy Lim. General manager Liu Quansheng, assistant Garrison Guo, and strength and conditioning coach Francesco Berre also continue their vital roles, ensuring the Dragons are prepared to face any challenge.
During the previous season, the Dragons showcased their prowess by pushing the Barangay Ginebra Kings to a thrilling Game 7 in the Commissioner's Cup finals. Despite falling short in that encounter, the Dragons garnered immense respect from fans and players alike for their relentless spirit and skillful performances.
Welcoming the return of the Bay Area Dragons to the PBA, Commissioner Willie Marcial expressed his excitement at having a Hong Kong-based team as a guest in the upcoming Season 48 opening conference. The addition of a Hong Kong element to the league promises to add new dimensions of competition and entertainment.
For their home games during the import-laden conference, the Dragons will grace the Southorn Stadium in Hong Kong, where they will also host three matches during the EASL group stage. This strategic partnership with the Chun Yu Basketball Club, recognized by the Hong Kong Basketball Association, aims to elevate the level of basketball in the region.
In preparation for the new season, the Dragons have unveiled a fresh new look, with redesigned team logos and a brand-new uniform design. EASL CEO and co-founder Matt Beyer expressed his belief that the Dragons' games will become the hottest sports tickets in town, promising immense excitement, inspiration, and pride for Hong Kong basketball enthusiasts.
