CIDG Arrests 2 Suspects In Death Of Adamson Student Due To Hazing

Two suspects believed to be involved in the hazing-related death of an Adamson University student have been apprehended by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG). On the evening of July 13, 2023, CIDG agents successfully served an arrest warrant in Cavite, leading to the arrest of 20-year-old Justin Ar-Jay Ramos Fontanilla in Imus and 21-year-old Armando Bocalan Hernandez Jr in Tanza.
The arrest warrants were issued based on the violation of Republic Act (RA) 8049, as amended by RA 11503, also known as the Anti-Hazing Act of 2018. The warrants were authorized by Honorable Armin Noel B. Villamonte, the Presiding Judge of Branch 155 in Binan City, Laguna, on July 6, 2023.
According to a statement from PMGen Romeo M Caramat Jr, Director of the CIDG, "Fontanilla and Hernandez are two of the suspected individuals involved in the death of Adamson University student John Matthew Salilig. Salilig lost his life during a hazing incident conducted by the Tau Gamma Phi fraternity on February 18, 2023, in Biñan City, Laguna."
The tragic incident unfolded when Salilig attended the initiation rites of the fraternity. He went missing for ten days before his body was discovered buried in a shallow grave in Imus City, Cavite.
Director Caramat emphasized that both suspects were included in the Regional Most Wanted Persons list in CALABARZON. He added "In support of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr's commitment to the grieving family that justice will be served, the CIDG, along with other law enforcement units and agencies, is at the forefront of ensuring that all individuals involved in this case are held accountable. We are dedicated to achieving justice for the victim and his family."
