The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has announced its readiness to comply should both houses of the 19th Congress issue a resolution to coincide with the national and local elections, facilitating a plebiscite for economic charter change.
Comelec Chairperson George Erwin Garcia stated that sample ballots with plebiscite questions are already prepared. However, it is essential to ensure clarity regarding which provisions will be amended.
Garcia further noted that no additional budget allocation would be necessary for this purpose. Instead, there will be a need for supplementary allowances for teachers who will serve as election officers during the plebiscite.
The announcement underscores the Comelec's commitment to uphold democratic processes and facilitate the expression of public will regarding crucial matters such as amendments to economic provisions. As preparations unfold, the Comelec remains poised to execute its duties with transparency and efficiency, ensuring the integrity and credibility of the electoral process.
