The Commission on Audit (COA) has revealed that there are no adverse findings concerning the establishment of the Vice Presidential Security and Protection Group (VPSPG). This significant development underscores the effectiveness and legitimacy of Vice President Sara Duterte's initiative, which led to the creation of the VPSPG in June 2022.
Vice President Duterte's vision for the VPSPG was to establish an independent security and protection unit separate from the Presidential Security Group (PSG). This move aimed to ensure that all future Philippine Vice Presidents receive the necessary security and protection, regardless of their political differences with the President. The importance of this measure was evident during the previous administration, where political tensions strained the relationship between the Vice President and the President.
Vice President Sara Duterte, who holds various key positions in the government, including Secretary of the Department of Education, Co-Vice Chairperson of NTF-ELCAC, and President of the Southeast Asia Ministers of Education Organization, has taken steps to enhance the security of the office.
The deployment of VPSPG personnel is contingent upon assessments by the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police, highlighting the cooperation and support of these crucial institutions. The Office of the Vice President (OVP) expresses its gratitude to the AFP and PNP for their assistance.
Furthermore, any comparisons between Vice President Sara Duterte and the security personnel of former Vice Presidents have been deemed absurd and lacking in a solid foundation. This report from the COA reinforces the commitment to maintaining a secure and stable environment for the Vice President's office.
