Creamline bounced back from a recent loss and reclaimed the lead in the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference with a hard-fought victory over Chery Tiggo. After a shaky start, Creamline rallied behind Jia de Guzman's excellent decision-making and Kyla Atienza's incredible floor defense. The veteran team employed a combination of everything to outlast the Crossovers in a frenzied fourth set marked by furious rallies and wild saves.
Jema Galanza led the way for Creamline with 25 hits, while Michele Gumabao and Ced Domingo added 17 and 16 points, respectively. Tots Carlos also contributed points despite coming off a hamstring injury. De Guzman finished with 34 excellent sets, while Atienza produced 20 excellent digs and several intangibles to clinch the game's top honors.
Despite EJ Laure's 15 points and Shaya Adorador's 11 markers, Chery Tiggo struggled to keep up with Creamline's relentless attack. Top hitter Mylene Paat managed only 10 points, and Cza Carandang finished with seven hits. Alina Bicar provided 18 excellent sets, while Buding Duremdes produced 14 excellent digs.
The match was packed with exciting moments, including Atienza's spectacular dig from a hard blast and a spectacular save in a single play that led to a Creamline point. Galanza's clutch drop shots gave the defending champions a 23-19 cushion. However, back-to-back attack errors by Gumabao and Galanza allowed the Crossovers to pull within two. Gumabao recovered and fired an off-the-block hit to put Creamline at match point before completing De Guzman's heroics in a scramble of a finish.
Creamline coach Sherwin Meneses commended Chery Tiggo for their preparation, admitting that his team struggled with their service receive in the first set. The Crossovers took control early on, but had no answer to Creamline's fiery comeback in the next and a dominating run in the third. Chery Tiggo fought back in the fourth, wresting control at 10-6, only to yield the next three points on a Pangs Panaga dump, a Gumabao kill, and a de Guzman ace.
In a duel of the league's top two attacking teams, Creamline emerged victorious, proving why they are the defending champions. The packed Philsports Arena in Pasig witnessed a thrilling match that showcased the best of Philippine volleyball. With this win, Creamline solidifies its position as a top contender in the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference.
