In a move to aid disaster-stricken individuals and address the issue of informal settlements, Department of Budget and Management (DBM) Secretary Amenah F. Pangandaman has given the green light for the release of a Notice of Cash Allocation (NCA) amounting to ₱12.259 billion.
This allocation will go towards housing assistance for calamity victims and the resettlement of informal settlers in the Western Visayas region.
Secretary Pangandaman has earmarked approximately ₱12.059 billion for the Housing Assistance Program for Calamity Victims (HAPCV) and an additional ₱200 million for the construction of four units of five-story low-rise residential buildings in Region VI (Western Visayas) intended for the resettlement of informal settler families (ISFs).
"Housing remains a top priority for President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. as he strongly believes in the necessity of providing decent homes for Filipinos, particularly those adversely affected by calamities," Secretary Pangandaman emphasized.
The request for disbursements, to be charged against the allocated budget from previous years, is supported by documented lists of Special Allotment Release Orders (SAROs) detailing the respective amounts, the status of fund utilization, and finance accountability reports duly verified by the DBM.
The National Housing Authority (NHA) is the sole government agency mandated to oversee housing projects for low-income families. Under the auspices of the Department of Human Settlement and Urban Development (DHSUD), the NHA serves as the government's production and financing arm in housing matters.
This initiative underscores the government's commitment to addressing housing-related issues in the Western Visayas region, providing much-needed assistance to calamity victims and seeking to improve the living conditions of informal settler families.
