Deaths From Torrential Rains, Floods Across PH Rise To 40

MANILA – The number of persons reported dead from the effects of the low-pressure area, shear line, and northeast monsoon that battered the country since January 2 has climbed to 40, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) said Friday.
In its latest disaster bulletin, the OCD said the figure includes 20 confirmed deaths – nine from Zamboanga Peninsula, seven from Eastern Visayas, two from Northern Mindanao, and one each from Mimaropa and Davao Region.
Still undergoing validation are 20 more fatalities – 10 from Bicol, six from Northern Mindanao, three from Zamboanga Peninsula, and one from Soccsksargen.
The amount of damage to agriculture and infrastructure was estimated at PHP885.16 million and PHP520.05 million, respectively, while the number of damaged houses was placed at 1,858.
A total of 481,012 families or 1,964,979 persons were affected by the effects of bad weather. (PNA)
