The Department of Education, led by Vice President and Secretary of Education Sara Z. Duterte officially launched the MATATAG Curriculum (K to 10 Curriculum of the K to 12 Program) last August 10 in Pasay City.

Vice President Duterte emphasized various competencies that the new curriculum will encompass, set to be implemented starting the 2024-2025 academic year through phased implementation.

She also extended gratitude to the personnel behind the curriculum review and the external partners who wholeheartedly supported the Department's initiative.
Senator Sherwin Gatchalian, Chair of the Senate Basic Education Committee, Rep. Roman Romulo, Chair of the House Basic Education and Culture Committee, and officials from different educational institutions within and outside the country attended the launch.

Under the Matatag curriculum, Kindergarten to Grade 10 lessons will emphasize five foundational skills: language, reading and literacy, mathematics, makabansa, and good manners and right conduct. This contrasts with the current curriculum's seven learning areas.

DepEd Director IV Jocelyn Andaya stated that 70 percent of the current K to 10 curriculum's learning competencies have been revised. Pilot implementation will occur this school year, with training for teachers and learning resources being prepared.

The phased implementation plan for the Matatag Curriculum is as follows:
• SY 2024 to 2025: Kinder, Grade 1, Grade 4, Grade 7
• SY 2025 to 2026: Grade 2, Grade 5, Grade 8
• SY 2026 to 2027: Grade 3, Grade 6, Grade 9
• SY 2027 to 2028: Grade 10

By 2028, the Matatag Curriculum will be fully implemented for Kindergarten to Grade 10 of the K to 12 program.
