Derla Wins Second Gold for PH in SEA Games

Angel Gwen Derla has captured the Philippines' second gold in the Kun Bokator women's single bamboo shield form event at the 32nd Southeast Asian Games held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

The 19-year-old Derla competed on Thursday, May 4 in the Kun Bokator, an ancient Cambodian martial art which made its SEA Games debut this year.

Derla earned a score of 8.4992 points, securing the gold and outshining four other competitors.

She defeated Cambodia's bet Chanchhorvy Puth, who won silver with 8.4658 points, and Deslya Anggraini from Indonesia, who bagged the bronze medal with an 8.4158 finish.

Derla's victory came after Kaila Napolis's gold medal in the Women's Ne-waza Nogi 52 kilogram Jiu-jitsu event.

The Philippines also secured two silvers and one bronze in Kun Bokator.

Mark James Lacao won silver medal in the men's single bamboo shield form of the sport.

Rhichein Yosorez claimed the silver medal in the women's single bare hand form category of Kun Bokator.

Kylie Mallari took home the bronze medal in the women's single bokator spirit form.

Kun Bokator offers a total of 21 gold medals in the biennial event, with nine in combat and 12 in forms techniques.
