The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has revealed that the application for political asylum in Timor-Leste by suspended Negros Oriental Representative Arnolfo "Arnie" Teves has been denied.
According to a statement issued by DFA on Tuesday, May 9, the Philippines Embassy in Timor-Leste said Teves submitted his application in Dili, where he currently stays.
"Today, the Ministry of Interior of Timor-Leste confirmed that Representative Teves' application for political asylum has been denied," the DFA said.
The DFA said that Teves has been given a period of five days to depart from Timor-Leste. During this time, he has the option to exercise his right to file an appeal concerning the decision made by the Timor-Leste government.
Teves has been out of the country since February this year. He refused to return after being linked in the March 4 assassination of Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo.
