Tropical Depression Dodong continues to move westward, gaining speed as it traverses the coastal waters of Laoag, Ilocos Norte, the state weather bureau said.

According to the Tropical Cyclone Bulletin issued at 5:00 p.m. today by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), as of 4:00 PM, the center of Tropical Depression Dodong was estimated to be over the coastal waters of Laoag, Ilocos Norte, at coordinates 18.2°N and 120.3°E.

It maintains maximum sustained winds of 45 km/h near the center, with gusts reaching up to 75 km/h. The central pressure was recorded at 998 hPa.

Dodong is currently moving westward at a speed of 20 km/h.

The extent of tropical cyclone winds spans up to 150 km from the center, with strong winds affecting various areas.

PAGASA has issued Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 (TCWS No. 1) due to the threat of strong winds to the following areas: Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, Apayao, Ilocos Norte, Abra, Ilocos Sur, Mountain Province, Kalinga, and the northern portion of Isabela (Mallig, Quezon, Santa Maria, Cabagan, Delfin Albano, Tumauini, Santo Tomas, San Pablo, Maconacon).

This signal has a warning lead time of 36 hours and signifies wind speeds ranging from 39 to 61 km/h (Beaufort 6 to 7), posing minimal to minor threats to life and property.

Heavy rainfall is also expected in certain areas.

PAGASA forecasts accumulated rainfall this afternoon until tomorrow afternoon, with amounts ranging from 50 to 100 mm in Cagayan, Apayao, Kalinga, Abra, Benguet, Ilocos Norte, La Union, and Pangasinan.

Under these conditions, there is a possibility of flooding and rain-induced landslides, particularly in highly susceptible areas as identified in hazard maps and localities that have already experienced significant rainfall in recent days.

While the areas under TCWS No. 1 may experience minimal to minor impacts from strong winds, other regions not covered by the signal, particularly coastal and upland/mountainous areas exposed to winds, may also experience gusty conditions.

Today, MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, Western Visayas, CALABARZON, Metro Manila, Central Luzon, and other areas of Northern Luzon are expected to encounter gusty conditions.

Tomorrow, the same regions will be affected, along with Zambales, Bataan, Aurora, Pangasinan, La Union, Isabela, and Benguet. On Sunday, the affected areas will include MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, Western Visayas, Cavite, Zambales, Bataan, Aurora, Pangasinan, La Union, Isabela, and Benguet.

Coastal areas are also advised to take precautions as Dodong and the enhanced Southwest Monsoon may bring moderate to rough seas.

The eastern and western seaboards of Northern Luzon may experience seas with heights ranging from 1.5 to 2.5 meters, while the western seaboards of Central and Southern Luzon may have seas reaching heights of 2.0 to 3.5 meters.

Mariners of small seacraft are urged to exercise caution when venturing out to sea, and those with limited experience or operating ill-equipped vessels are advised to avoid navigating in these conditions.

Dodong is expected to continue moving westward or west-northwestward before gradually turning northwestward over the West Philippine Sea. It is projected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) tomorrow evening or early Sunday morning.

Once outside the PAR, Dodong will continue on a general west-northwestward track over the waters south of southern China. There is a possibility that Dodong may reach tropical storm category by tomorrow while over the West Philippine Sea.
