'Dodong' Intensifies Into Tropical Storm

Manila, Philippines - Tropical Storm Dodong has intensified into a tropical storm as it continues its north-northwestward movement. The storm is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) either Saturday, according to the latest bulletin issued by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) at 11:00 AM.

As of 10:00 AM, the center of Tropical Storm Dodong was estimated to be located approximately 305 km west of Sinait, Ilocos Sur. It has maximum sustained winds of 65 km/h near the center, with gustiness of up to 80 km/h. The central pressure was recorded at 994 hPa. The storm is currently moving at a speed of 10 km/h in a north-northwestward direction.

The extent of tropical cyclone winds associated with Dodong reaches outwards up to 310 km from its center. However, PAGASA has not raised any Tropical Cyclone Wind Signals (TCWS) at this time.

While Dodong itself is not expected to bring heavy rainfall to any part of the country, the Southwest Monsoon enhanced by the storm may cause occasional to frequent rains in certain areas. For detailed information on the regions affected by the Southwest Monsoon, PAGASA advises referring to Weather Advisory #6 for Southwest Monsoon issued at 11:00 AM today and the 24-Hour Public Weather Forecast issued at 4:00 AM today.

All Wind Signals have been lifted as of this bulletin. Nevertheless, the enhanced Southwest Monsoon may still bring gusty conditions to various areas, particularly in coastal and upland/mountainous regions.

The following areas are likely to experience these gusty conditions today: Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Batanes, the eastern portion of Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Zambales, Bataan, Bulacan, Pampanga, Aurora, Metro Manila, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, and Western Visayas. Tomorrow, similar conditions are expected in Ilocos Region, Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, Western Visayas, and the southern portion of Quezon. On Monday, gusty conditions may affect Ilocos Region, Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Oriental Mindoro, Palawan, Romblon, and Antique.

Coastal waters along the northern and western seaboards of Luzon and Western Visayas are under a marine gale warning due to the influence of Dodong and the enhanced Southwest Monsoon. PAGASA has issued Gale Warning #1 (Intermediate) at 11:00 AM today, providing detailed information on this matter.

In terms of its forecasted track and intensity, Dodong is expected to move generally northwestward today before turning west-northwestward for the remainder of the forecast period. The storm is projected to intensify while over the West Philippine Sea and may reach typhoon category by Monday.
