The Department of Health (DOH) has reported 9,465 new COVID-19 cases in the Philippines from May 1 to 7. The daily average cases during this period is 1,352, reflecting a 112% increase from the previous week.

As of May 7, there were 410 COVID-19 patients who were admitted to hospitals in the country, with 346 of the 2,097 ICU beds occupied. Meanwhile, 3,766 out of 17,758 non-ICU COVID-19 beds are currently in use.

The DOH also reported that more than 78 million individuals, or 100.44% of the target population, have been vaccinated against COVID-19, while 23 million have received their booster shots. Among senior citizens, 7.1 million, or 82.16% of the target A2 population, have completed their primary vaccination series.

Of the 9,465 new cases, 50 patients have been classified as severe or critical. Additionally, there were 9 deaths reported during this period, with 1 occurring in April 2023, 2 in March 2023, 1 in September 2022, 4 in August 2022, and 1 in July 2022.

The DOH reminds everyone to remain vigilant against COVID-19 and to continue following the minimum public health standards under Alert Level 1. This includes wearing a best-fitted face mask, staying in well-ventilated areas, and isolating immediately when experiencing symptoms. Getting vaccinated and receiving booster shots are also recommended for added protection.

The DOH website, www.doh.gov.ph/covid19tracker, provides additional information and updates on the COVID-19 situation in the Philippines. Note that due to ongoing migration of the Vaccine Information Management System (VIMS) by the DICT, the DOH-EB will not be able to generate updated vaccine accomplishments until said migration has been resolved. However, any data submitted or edited through the VIMS application are still accepted and duly processed.
