Bicol Region confirms that one out of thirty (30) close contacts of the first COVID-19 case in Brgy. Gabawan Evacuation Camp has tested positive for COVID-19. Following contact tracing and swabbing conducted on June 19, 2023, one individual has been identified as positive based on the official results of the Reverse Transcriptase-Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) test conducted on June 21, 2023.
The patient is a 12-year-old male. Since the start of quarantine, the patient has not exhibited any symptoms of COVID-19. Currently, the patient is isolated at Daraga Infirmary.
The One Mayon Disease Surveillance Team of the Department is currently coordinating with the Local Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit to identify any additional close contacts of the patient. Any identified close contacts will undergo immediate quarantine and undergo an RT-PCR test five (5) days after the last exposure to the positive COVID-19 case.
The Department, in collaboration with the Albay Provincial Health Office, is conducting health education campaigns in the evacuation camps to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Medical and public health teams have been dispatched to the evacuation camps to provide medical services and vaccinations to the evacuees. Face masks, alcohol, and other essential supplies have also been distributed to the evacuees to promote COVID-19 prevention.
The Department reiterates the importance of following the BIDA Solusyon Plus: wearing face masks, especially in crowded areas, practicing hand hygiene and sanitation, maintaining a one-meter physical distance, and staying informed about COVID-19.
Individuals experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 such as fever, cough, cold, body aches, sore throat, difficulty swallowing, difficulty breathing, or any combination of these symptoms are urged to seek immediate consultation with healthcare workers within the evacuation camps.
