In response to the recent slew of damaging statements made by entertainment commentator Cristy Fermin on her social media vlogs, actor Dominic Roque has issued a statement condemning the malicious and defamatory nature of the accusations.
Fermin, known for her outspoken commentary, allegedly made baseless claims suggesting that Roque has a benefactor who is a politician, further insinuating that this politician is the owner of the condominium unit where Roque resides.
Roque, through the Fernandez and Singson Law offices, categorically denied the claims, asserting that he is a longtime friend of Dapitan City Mayor Bullet Jalosjos and is simply leasing the said unit.
The defamatory innuendos quickly gained traction on social media, with netizens even erroneously implicating Mayor Bullet Jalosjos in the unfounded rumors. Roque expressed his embarrassment and issued a public apology to Mayor Jalosjos and his family for being inadvertently drawn into the controversy.
In a separate vlog, Ms. Fermin allegedly made another malicious statement, implicating former Congressman Bong Suntay as one of Roque's suspected benefactors. Roque extended his apologies to Suntay and his family for the embarrassment caused by the deplorable innuendos. Furthermore, Roque clarified that he does not own a Clean Fuel gas station, dispelling any misinformation on the matter.
While acknowledging that public figures like himself are subject to public discussion, Roque emphasized that there are legal boundaries to protect individuals from malicious and defamatory statements. He argued that Ms. Fermin had crossed these boundaries and intentionally damaged the integrity and honor of those involved.
Addressing another controversy, Roque vehemently denied rumors of a disagreement with actress Bea Alonzo over a pre-nuptial agreement. He labeled the statements as reckless, unverified, and purely speculative, aimed at tarnishing the image of the parties concerned.
Roque's legal team is reportedly exploring legal avenues to address the damages caused by the defamatory statements, emphasizing the need for accountability in media discourse.
