Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Jaime Bautista has taken legal action against individuals who accused him of involvement in alleged irregularities within the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).
On Tuesday October 17,2023, Bautista filed cybercrime complaints with the Department of Justice (DOJ) against Manibela President Mar Valbuena and Ira Panganiban.
The complaints, based on violations of Article 355 in relation to Article 353 of the Revised Penal Code, are rooted in the Republic Act 10175, also known as the Cyber Crime Prevention Act. In the filed documents, Secretary Bautista vehemently defended his integrity and track record, denouncing the accusations as malicious, baseless, and untruthful.
“I cannot allow myself to be the subject of another's desperate attempt to attain fame, especially when malicious, baseless, and untruthful statements are hurled against me, if only to put a blemish on my untarnished track record and reputation of excellence and integrity,” said Bautista in the charge sheet.
Justice Undersecretary Nicholas Felix Ty received the official complaint, marking the initiation of the legal proceedings.
Secretary Bautista further maintained his stance, stating, "For the record, I have never received any bribe of some sort, much less used any amount of money to maintain my position as Secretary of the DOTr."
