At 4:00 PM, the center of Typhoon Egay was located 280 km West Northwest of Itbayat, Batanes, outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). The typhoon maintains its intensity with maximum sustained winds of 150 km/h near the center and gusts of up to 185 km/h, accompanied by a central pressure of 955 hPa.
Presently, Typhoon Egay is moving in a West Northwestward direction at a speed of 10 km/h. The extent of tropical cyclone winds spreads outwards up to 400 km from the center. As of now, Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1 is in effect, with the threat of strong winds persisting for the next 36 hours. Wind speeds within this range are expected to reach 39 to 61 km/h (Beaufort 6 to 7), presenting a minimal to minor threat to life and property. The areas affected by TCWS No. 1 include Batanes, the northern portion of Apayao (Calanasan, Luna, Santa Marcela), Ilocos Norte, and the northwestern portion of Cagayan (Santa Praxedes, Claveria, Sanchez-Mira, Pamplona, Abulug, Ballesteros), including Babuyan Islands.
Track and Intensity Outlook: Typhoon Egay is forecasted to continue moving north northwestward over the sea southwest of Taiwan, passing through the Taiwan Strait throughout the forecast period while gradually accelerating. Tomorrow morning, it is expected to make landfall in the vicinity of Fujian, China.
However, prior to its landfall over China, Typhoon Egay is projected to weaken. Rapid weakening is anticipated once it makes landfall over mainland China and moves further inland. Residents and authorities in the affected regions are advised to stay vigilant and heed the warnings and safety measures issued by local disaster management agencies. Precautions should be taken to safeguard life and property from the potential impacts of the strong winds associated with Typhoon Egay.
