Law enforcement agencies have successfully apprehended an escapee from the National Bilibid Prison, bringing an end to a month-long manhunt. The fugitive, identified as 27-year-old Michael Angelo Cataroja, had managed to evade authorities since July 7, 2023, following his escape from the maximum-security compound.
The arrest was the result of a collaborative effort between the Angono Municipal Police Station (MPS), led by Chief of Police PMAJ Lauro L. Moratillo, and the Bureau of Corrections. The breakthrough came after an anonymous tipster provided crucial information about Cataroja's whereabouts, leading to a swift and well-coordinated operation.
The escapee, who was detained for carnapping and violation of PD 1612 (Anti-Fencing Law), had been serving time in the Bureau of Corrections since July 26, 2022. His escape prompted intensive efforts by law enforcement, culminating in a joint operation that demonstrated the power of inter-agency synergy.
PLTGEN Rhoderick C. Armament, APC-SL, alongside PBGEN Carlito M. Gaces, RD PRO4A, and PCOL Dominic L Baccay, Provincial Director of Rizal PPO, commended the successful operation and highlighted the significance of community collaboration. This achievement underscores the vital partnership between law enforcement and citizens in ensuring the swift administration of justice.
The apprehension of Cataroja represents a victory for both the dedicated officers of the Angono MPS and the relentless pursuit of justice by the Bureau of Corrections. As the fugitive is placed under the custody of the Angono Municipal Police Station, authorities are ensuring that he will face the consequences of his actions and be properly processed by the Bureau of Corrections.
