Expiring Drivers Licenses Gets Extension Due to Plastic Card Shortage
Screengrab from LTO
In a recent announcement, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) has extended the validity of driver's licenses set to expire starting April 24, 2023, until October 31, 2023. This move comes amidst the current shortage in the supply of plastic cards used in producing driver's licenses.

The LTO's decision to extend the validity of driver's licenses is a much-needed relief for motorists who are facing difficulties in renewing their licenses due to the limited availability of plastic cards. The agency acknowledged that the current supply chain issues have caused delays in the production and release of driver's licenses, which prompted them to implement this temporary solution.

The LTO assures the public that they are working to address the supply shortage issue and that they will resume the regular validity periods of driver's licenses as soon as possible. In the meantime, motorists can continue to use their expired driver's licenses as long as they have applied for a renewal.
