FAMAS 2023 Winners Celebrated For Excellence In Philippine Cinema

The prestigious 71st Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences (FAMAS) Awards, organized by the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), took place on August 13 2023 at the Manila Hotel. A night dedicated to honoring outstanding contributions to Philippine cinema, the event recognized a multitude of talented individuals who have left an indelible mark on the industry.

Among the luminaries celebrated were Ma-an Asuncion-Dagñalan and Martika Escobar, whose cinematic creations shone brightly. "Blue Room," directed by Ma-an Asuncion-Dagñalan, captured the hearts of the audience and garnered accolades for its captivating narrative and brilliant direction. The film not only secured the coveted title of Best Picture but also bestowed the honor of Best Director upon its visionary creator. Moreover, the film's exquisite cinematography, masterfully executed by Neil Daza, was duly recognized with the Best Cinematography award.

Martika Escobar's magnum opus, "Leonor Will Never Die," a product of FDCP's Full Circle Lab PH and a recipient of the Film Distribution Fund, was lauded for its exceptional production design, courtesy of Eero Yves Francisco, who earned the Best Production Design award.
Nadine Lustre's compelling portrayal in "Greed" earned her the title of Best Actress, while Noel Trinidad's remarkable performance in "Family Matters" earned him the accolade of Best Actor.

Nikki Valdez, an integral part of the cast of "Family Matters," was honored with the Best Supporting Actress award, adding to the film's list of triumphs. Sid Lucero's powerful depiction in "Reroute" garnered him the Best Supporting Actor award.

The creative brilliance behind the captivating stories was celebrated as well. Abet Raz and Alejandro Ramos were recognized for their remarkable screenplay in "La Traidora," earning them the Best Screenplay award. "Family Matters," a poignant narrative that resonated with audiences, secured the distinction of Best Editing, courtesy of the talented Beng Bandong.

The musical scores and soundscape that enriched the cinematic experience were not overlooked. Jazz Nicolas and Mikey Amistoso's exceptional work on "Blue Room" garnered them the Best Musical Score award, while Alizen Andrade and Immanuel Verona were celebrated for their outstanding contribution to the auditory tapestry of "Reroute," earning them the Best Sound award.

In the realm of short films, "Golden Bells" by Kurt Soberano stood out and was honored with the Best Short Film award.

The evening also witnessed the bestowal of several prestigious awards to esteemed individuals in the industry. Sen. Lito Lapid received the Fernando Poe Jr. Memorial Award, Liza Lorena was honored with the Susan Roces Celebrity Award, and Jun Urbano was commemorated with the Dr. Jose R. Perez Memorial Award. Jillian Ward was recognized with the German Moreno Youth Achievement Award, while Marita Zobel's exceptional contributions earned her the FAMAS Lifetime Achievement Award. In recognition of his unwavering dedication, House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez was honored with the FAMAS Exemplary Award in Public Service.
