The Philippine Embassy in Turkiye has confirmed the death of a Filipina and her three children in Antakya following a massive earthquake in the region. “She and her children have been laid to rest by her Turkish husband, in accordance with Turkish tradition,” the Embassy said in its statement.

More than 20 families have been hosted in the embassy shelter, with over 70 individuals, including overseas Filipinos, children, Turkish spouses, and senior citizens.

“The embassy has met over 70 Filipinos who have decided to remain in the provinces they call home. The embassy team has provided assistance according to their needs, with a handful respectfully declining assistance so that it may be reserved for those in more dire situations,” it added.

“The embassy is now focusing on facilitating everyone's return to normalcy, and accelerating its actions towards the repatriation of all qualified Filipino citizens who desire to return to the Philippines. For those who wish to remain in Türkiye, the embassy may assist in referring to housing and financial programs and other services provided by the Turkish government for its displaced citizens,” it said.

The embassy also praised the continuous work of the Philippine contingency who have swept through more than 30 buildings since their arrival, while the Philippine Medical Assistance Team has assisted at least 539 injured.
