Former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has demanded a comprehensive audit of all government expenditures, revealing concerns about possible misuse of public funds.
Speaking at a recent public event, Duterte expressed his apprehensions and cast a spotlight on the nation's political landscape.
"Alam mo pag nag liquidate ka, and I am asking mag liquidation tayo and you will find out what is the most rotten institution dito. You'll find out it's Congress," Duterte asserted, alluding to potential corruption within the legislative branch.
Duterte also raised questions about Congressman Martin Romualdez, Speaker of the House of Representatives, who has hinted at a possible presidential run.
The former president insists on an audit of Romualdez's spending during his tenure as Speaker.
Duterte also called for transparency in government spending, urging the Commission on Audit (COA) to scrutinize expenditures. He emphasized that if the COA fails to act, he will rally various stakeholders, including farmers, businessmen, church leaders, and law enforcement personnel, to demand a comprehensive financial audit to uncover how public money has been utilized.
Duterte also expressed reservations about his daughter, Vice President Sara Duterte, running for President, suggesting that she should remain in her current position.
