Former Sen De Lima Insists Cases Against Her are Invalid

In a recent dispatch from Crame, Atty. Leila M. de Lima has responded to the remarks made by the Secretary of Justice, Remulla, regarding her petition for bail. According to reports, Remulla stated that the Department of Justice would only grant bail in de Lima's cases if it were based on humanitarian grounds, and not on the merits of the case.

De Lima, who has been in detention since February 2017 on drug charges, has strongly rebutted this statement. She firmly believes that she will gain her freedom on the merits of the case, as the DOJ has no valid case against her from the very beginning.

The senator went on to thank Remulla for his concern over her ordeal, especially after her harrowing experience of being taken hostage and almost killed while in detention. However, she expressed her inability to thank him as the head of the agency that fabricated charges against her during the time of President Duterte, and maintained these charges to date.

De Lima has been a vocal critic of President Duterte's administration and its policies. She has repeatedly claimed that the charges against her were politically motivated and aimed at silencing her.

The senator concluded her statement by emphasizing that justice and freedom for her are long overdue. Her case has garnered international attention, with human rights groups calling for her release and the dropping of all charges against her. The public eagerly awaits the outcome of her petition for bail and hopes that justice will be served.
