In response to a distress call, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has launched a search and rescue (SAR) operation after an aluminum boat carrying four PCG rescuers capsized in the waters off Aparri, Cagayan at approximately 4 PM yesterday, July 26, 2023.
The four rescuers were en route to M/Tug Iroquis to assist seven crew members aboard the tugboat. While navigating the turbulent waters of the Cagayan River, their aluminum boat capsized due to strong winds and massive waves brought about by Typhoon #EgayPH.
An SAR operation was initiated earlier this morning but was temporarily suspended due to severe weather conditions. The Coast Guard Aviation Force (CGAF) helicopter is set to be dispatched to aid in the search for the missing PCG rescuers.
