In a recent development, Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin has issued a statement regarding the appointment of Secretary Lorenzo Gadon as Presidential Adviser for Poverty Alleviation, despite his ongoing legal cases before the Supreme Court. Bersamin acknowledged the awareness of these cases but emphasized that President's decision was based on the belief that Gadon's work as a presidential adviser would remain unaffected by his status as a lawyer.
"We were aware of Sec. Gadon's cases before the Supreme Court, but the President felt that his work as a presidential adviser will not get affected by his status as a lawyer. This is a matter which he will have to personally attend to," stated Bersamin.
While the appointment of Secretary Gadon raised eyebrows due to his pending legal battles, Bersamin clarified that the President believes Gadon's capacity to fulfill the duties of his new role effectively. According to Bersamin, there are urgent matters that require immediate attention within the President's anti-poverty programs, and Gadon's expertise and commitment are expected to contribute significantly.
"He will continue on his new role as Presidential Adviser for Poverty Alleviation as there are urgent matters that need to be done in the President's anti-poverty programs. The President believes he will do a good job," added Bersamin.
The Executive Secretary's statement reflects the President's trust in Secretary Gadon's ability to compartmentalize his legal affairs while focusing on his responsibilities as a presidential adviser. The decision to appoint Gadon underscores the administration's dedication to tackling poverty-related issues, which have been a primary concern for the current government.
