The Gilas Pilipinas Men 3×3 team continued their unbeaten run at the 19th Asian Games, securing a hard-fought victory against Chinese Taipei with a final score of 17-12.
Bryan Sajonia once again led the charge in scoring, contributing a total of six points to the team's tally. John Rey Pasaol and Justine Sanchez also played pivotal roles, chipping in with four points each, while Bismarck Lina added three points to the scoreboard.
The game was a tense battle, with Chinese Taipei's Lin Sin Kuan making a crucial 2-pointer that cut Gilas' lead to just one point, 9-8. However, Pasaol responded with back-to-back baskets, and Sajonia executed a key attack to re-establish a four-point lead for the Philippines.
As the clock ticked down and the Philippines held a 13-9 advantage, Chinese Taipei made one last-ditch effort for a comeback, courtesy of a 2-pointer from Yu Xiang-Ping. Both teams traded baskets in the final possessions, but Lina ultimately sealed the victory for Gilas with a pair of free throws, leaving only 18 seconds on the clock.
With this victory, Gilas Men 3×3 maintained their perfect record in Pool A, following their win over Jordan the previous day.
The top team in each pool will advance to the quarterfinals.
The Philippines will next go against Hong Kong on Wednesday at 3:30 PM.
