Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Assistant Secretary Ma. Teresita Daza said it is closely monitoring and providing legal assistance to two Filipino individuals arrested in Japan.
Due to the sensitive nature of the ongoing legal proceedings, Daza refrained from disclosing further details about the case, emphasizing the government's priority is navigating the complexities of the situation and offering support to the affected individuals.

Earlier, the DFA confirmed the arrest of two Filipinos in Japan following the discovery of 55-year-old Norihiro Takahashi and his 52-year-old wife Kimie's bodies. The couple was found dead in their residence with multiple stab wounds and signs of struggle. Hazel Ann Baguisa Morales and Bryan Jefferson Lising Dela Cruz, were subsequently arrested for allegedly abandoning the bodies.

DFA Deputy Assistant Secretary Bryan Lao reported that the Japanese authorities, investigating the couple's disappearance, discovered security footage showing the two Filipinos within the premises. However, it remains unconfirmed whether the accused individuals knew each other. Morales, who already has a court-appointed counsel, has denied all allegations.

Concurrently, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has stepped in to assist an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) arrested in connection with the case of a Japanese couple found dead in Tokyo's Adachi Ward. DMW Officer-in-Charge Undersecretary Hans Leo Cacdac confirmed the arrest and detention, directing the DMW Migrant Workers Office (MWO)-Tokyo to promptly visit and meet with the concerned OFW, ensuring government assistance.

Cacdac emphasized the need to assess the OFW's condition and address any immediate needs, while also providing ample legal assistance. The DMW is in close coordination with the Philippine Embassy in Tokyo to guarantee comprehensive support.

DMW, expressing condolences to the families of the deceased Japanese couple, assures assistance to the OFW and their family in collaboration with Ambassador Milen Garcia and the Philippine Embassy in Tokyo. Further updates on the matter will be issued by the DMW as necessary.
