Government Aims to 'Upskill' Workers as more Foreign Investors Arrive
The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) is gearing up for the expected influx of foreign investors in the country by ensuring that the Philippines has a pool of well-educated and highly-skilled workforce.

Labor Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma emphasized during the Bagong Pilipinas episode aired on Saturday that the upskilling of Filipino workers must be industry-led as well as demand- and market-driven so that workers can find employment that suit their skills.

To address job mismatch issues, Laguesma said that the DOLE is looking into establishing an effective labor information system that compares available jobs in different regions.

Moreover, the DOLE is strengthening its digitalization of available jobs to provide opportunities for workers to choose the kind of work they prefer. The DOLE is also conducting jobs fair to know the requirements of every industry to address job mismatch issues effectively. The Marcos administration is also focused on ensuring that the country has a cheap and stable energy supply to sustain manufacturing industries that create jobs with the expected influx of foreign investors.
