Hidilyn Diaz, the celebrated Tokyo Olympics gold medalist, displayed immense strength and determination today October 2, 2023 in the Weightlifting Women's 59kg event at the 19th Asian Games.
However, despite her gallant efforts, she narrowly missed out on a podium finish, securing the fourth position overall.
Diaz had a chance to get at least a bronze but she failed to carry the equipment on her third and final attempt at 131 kilograms. She successfully lifted 94 and 97 kilograms on her first two tries at snatch, but missed on the 100 kilograms on her third and last attempt.
However, Diaz remains upbeat as she continues to build towards her fifth appearance in the Summer Games next year at the Paris Olympics.
"I'm confident of winning gold in Paris, but I'll need to lift 107kg and 135kg to do that," she said.
