High-Level Security Meeting Held At MSU Marawi

In the wake of the terror attack that occurred on December 3, 2023, at the Mindanao State University (MSU) in Marawi City, a high-level security meeting was convened at the university to address the incident and restore normalcy to the campus.

The President of the MSU System, Atty. Basari D. Mapupuno, led the meeting alongside MSU officials and notable figures such as Gen. Ricardo F. de Leon, the current director of the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency of the Philippines. Former Vice President Romeo Magsalos, PNP Army, AFP, and other key stakeholders were also present to provide assistance and support.

Gen. Ricardo F. de Leon, emphasizing the importance of security, informed the attendees that their mission is to stabilize the campus while respecting the local culture and people. Atty. Zed Abantas, the BOR Secretary, highlighted the need for consistent security measures on the campus. Former Vice President Magsalos reaffirmed the unique sense of family and the culture of kind treatment among cultural groups at MSU.

A significant moment in the meeting came from Prof. Hendely Adlawan, the Dean of the College of SPEAR and a respected Catholic leader, who expressed gratitude to the Meranaw community for protecting them during the incident and assisting Catholic victims.

The meeting concluded with President Mapupuno expressing appreciation for the outpouring of support from all stakeholders in dealing with the aftermath of the attack.

In a related development, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) issued a statement strongly condemning the terror attack at MSU Marawi. The explosion occurred during the first Sunday of Advent mass, resulting in the loss of four lives and injuring at least 50 individuals. The AFP assured the public of heightened security measures in and around Marawi City and vowed to collaborate closely with law enforcement agencies to swiftly investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.

The AFP emphasized that terrorist groups resorting to bombing is a grave concern, reminiscent of similar incidents in the past, and called for condemnation regardless of the motives behind such acts. The statement concluded with a resolute commitment to protecting the people and the state, urging the public to remain vigilant and cooperative in the face of threats.

Gen. Romeo S. Brawner Jr., PA, reiterated the AFP's unwavering commitment to prevailing over those who seek to disrupt peace and stability in the region.
