In a response to the extensive devastation wrought by a powerful 7.4 magnitude earthquake, the municipality of Hinatuan has officially been placed under a State of Calamity.

This decision was formalized through Resolution No. GC-621, Series of 2023, a measure approved during a special session held on December 3, 2023, by the Sangguniang Bayan of Hinatuan.

Presided over by Municipal Vice Mayor Atty. Tito Canedo III, the special session convened to address the urgent situation at hand.

The move to declare a State of Calamity was proposed by Municipal Mayor TiTing Garay, who also serves as the Chairman of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC).

This declaration grants the municipal government the authority to mobilize resources and allocate funds efficiently to address the immediate needs of the affected population.

The earthquake, which struck with a magnitude of 7.4, has left widespread destruction in its wake, impacting homes, infrastructure, and essential services.

The State of Calamity will serve as a pivotal tool for Hinatuan's municipal government to coordinate and implement recovery initiatives, collaborating with various agencies and organizations to rebuild and uplift the community during this challenging time.
