The Magnolia Hotshots have won their fourth straight game in the PBA Governors' Cup beating the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters 112-97. The guards of the Hotshots, Paul Lee, Jio Jalalon, and Mark Barroca, scored 19 points each, while Antonio Hester contributed 17 points and 15 rebounds.
Coach Chito Victolero credited the team's positive mindset and willingness to learn from mistakes as the key to their success. He also stressed the importance of fighting for every possession and not becoming complacent.
Despite the loss, Rain or Shine's Greg Smith and his teammates tried to mount a comeback, but the Hotshots held on to their lead throughout the game. With this victory, Magnolia is now above the .500 mark in the elims at 4-3 and in contention for the Top 4 and a twice-to-beat incentive in the quarters.
Jalalon was named the Best Player of the Game, adding eight rebounds and four assists to his 19 points. Barroca also played a significant role off the bench, contributing 9-of-16 from the field. The Hotshots' Russel Escoto also made the most of his minutes, scoring 10 points and grabbing eight rebounds.
Rain or Shine, on the other hand, dropped to joint eighth with the Phoenix Super LPG Fuel Masters at 2-5. They need to win their last four games against NLEX, Phoenix, NorthPort, and San Miguel Beer for a chance to make it to the quarterfinals.
The Hotshots will look to sustain their momentum in their upcoming games against the Meralco Bolts, the Batang Pier, the Terrafirma Dyip, and the Blackwater Bossing.
